Title: Cybersecurity & Data Privacy – Understanding the Risk and Tips for Mitigation
Speaker: Jeremy Price, Stinnett & Associates

Area:
Summary:

Cyber incidents continue to increase in both scope and severity for large and small companies. The increasing severity and number of incidents in recent years has made it clear that companies without adequate protection systems are extremely vulnerable. The challenge companies face regarding cybersecurity is that the ever changing landscape makes it difficult for the non-technical employee to understand what they need to be concerned about when trying to protect their company against these threats.

Stinnett is also seeing an increase in fraudulent activity around organizations’ processes which are involved with cash in and cash out of the business. Malicious threat actors are gaining access to corporate email systems through phishing campaigns, targeting employees with job responsibilities related to finance and accounting. Once access is gained, the hackers leverage the email access gained to communicate with customers and vendors with the intent of changing financial transaction origination and destination points ( bank account numbers, financial institutions). This leads to fraudulent transactions that are usually unrecoverable by the targeted organization.

This course will help the non-technical accountant understand and navigate how these threats are being performed and what they can do to help their companies protect against it.

We will address the following areas related to increased cybersecurity risks:

  • Why should we be concerned with cybersecurity?
  • What are some key cybersecurity definitions?
  • What are some emerging cybersecurity trends and threats?
  • What happened with some recent high-profile cybersecurity attacks?
  • What are some cybersecurity roadblocks?
  • What are steps to evaluate your company’s cybersecurity risk level?
  • How can you take preventive measures and protect yourself and your company?
